The LGV licence is generally thought of as the most in-demand and versatile commercial license to have because it is the class of vehicle normally chosen by a huge diversity of businesses to distribute localised deliveries. The license to drive this type of vehicle is commonly referred to as the LGV Rigid, Class 2 or LGV. New drivers must qualify first in these vehicles before they can upgrade their driving skills and take the test for an Articulated Lorry.
Our team of friendly and professional instructors have many years experience, knowledge of the industry and are registered with the DSA. We provide all classes of LGV training courses on a one-to-one basis and are also able to offer a shared time training scheme if requested.
We train drivers for licence categories:
C1, C1 + E, C and C + E
How Long Does It Take To Train For The LGV Driver Test?
As professional LGV driving instructors we treat each trainee driver differently depending on their ability. Typically a training course is spread over 5 days with approximately 20 hours of one-to-one tuition in one of our well maintained vehicles. Our LGV driving instructors will teach you to drive confidently and safely to a high standard of driving beyond what is required for the LGV test in order to give you the best chance of passing first time and being safe on the road. The LGV driving test is usually on the fifth day at a local test centre.
The LGV Test:
Essentially the LGV driving test will require you to demonstrate:
• Expert handling of the controls
• That you can drive safely to a high standard
• Complete the set exercises effectively whilst keeping the vehicle under control
• Thorough knowledge of the Highway Code and vehicle safety
LGV Artic Training:
Drivers wishing to take the artic (C+E) course must hold a full rigid (C) licence. Driving articulated vehicles demands a high level of skill, particularly concerning forward planning and defensive driving techniques. The driver training schedule is similar to that of the LGV Rigid with the additional requirement to demonstrate your ability to couple and uncouple your vehicle with a trailer.
