Looking to drive a vehicle larger than a standard van but not quite a full-size lorry?
The 7.5 tonne licence (Category C1) is your gateway to operating medium-sized commercial vehicles — essential for delivery drivers, removal companies, and tradespeople. At RSM Driver Training, we specialise in providing professional C1 driver training across Essex & Greater London, helping you gain the skills, confidence, and qualifications to drive 7.5T vehicles safely and legally. Whether you’re starting a new career, upskilling for work, or expanding your driving entitlements, we’ve got the perfect training package for you. Call our team today on 01268 695 909 .
A Category C1 licence allows you to drive vehicles weighing between 3.5 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes. This includes delivery vans, small lorries, horseboxes, ambulances, and motorhomes.
✅ If you passed your car test (Category B) before 1997, you may already have this entitlement.
❌ If you passed after 1997, you’ll need to pass the relevant tests to obtain your C1 licence.
Typical examples of vehicles requiring a C1 licence:
Luton vans with tail lifts
Horseboxes
Motorhomes over 3.5T
Small goods lorries for local deliveries
We offer tailored C1 driver training packages designed to maximise your success.
Initial Driving Assessment to determine your current skill level.
One-to-One Practical Driver Training with experienced instructors.
Vehicle Safety & Walkaround Checks preparation.
Practical Test Booking & Support.
Optional Driver CPC Modules, if required for professional use.
You’ll train in modern, well-maintained vehicles representative of what you’ll drive on the job. Comfortable, safe, and easy to learn with.
This licence is essential for:
Courier & delivery drivers handling larger payloads.
Removal companies operating medium-sized vans.
Tradespeople & small businesses needing heavier vehicles.
Emergency service drivers (e.g., ambulances).
Motorhome enthusiasts driving larger vehicles.
If your job involves transporting goods in vehicles heavier than 3.5T but under 7.5T, you’ll need this licence.
