August 2026 marks one year since RSM Driver Training officially became a DVSA approved testing site for Module 3a and Module 4 assessments, alongside Module 3b tests conducted independently by DVSA examiners.
This milestone gives us the perfect opportunity to look back at how the site was created, the positive impact it has had and our plans for the future.
Eight Weeks of Transformation
Becoming an approved testing site required a complete transformation of our Wickford training centre.
Over eight weeks, a huge amount of work went into developing the site and ensuring it met the required standards. We documented the progress and shared it with our followers, from the early stages of the work through to the completed testing facilities.
What began as a major development project has now become an important part of our daily operations, allowing candidates to complete their training and practical tests from one familiar location.
More Than 1,500 Tests in Our First Year
The centre has been incredibly busy throughout its first year.
Since opening in August 2025, more than 1,500 tests have been conducted for RSM candidates from our Wickford site.
This figure does not include the additional tests conducted for external training providers, making the total number of candidates supported through the centre even higher.
RSM has its own DVSA approved Module 3a and Module 4 assessors, while all Module 3b driving tests are conducted independently by DVSA examiners operating directly from the site.
Reaching more than 1,500 tests in just twelve months is an achievement we are incredibly proud of and reflects the positive impact the centre has already had.
Training and Testing from One Location
One of the biggest benefits for our candidates is being able to train and test from the same site.
Our centre is located close to the local test routes, reducing unnecessary travel time during training. This means some candidates can choose a shorter course duration, helping them save money while still spending valuable time practising in the areas that matter most.
Candidates have also told us that completing their training and testing from a familiar location helps settle their nerves. They already know the site, the facilities and what to expect on the day, making the move from training to testing feel much more manageable.
It also allows candidates to complete every stage of their practical journey through one centre, including Module 3a, Module 3b and Module 4.
Working Closely with the DVSA
Having DVSA examiners operating directly from our site has been a very positive step for RSM and the candidates we support.
It has allowed us to develop a strong working relationship with the DVSA team and work together to ensure the centre operates safely, efficiently and productively.
Although our instructors fully prepare candidates for their tests, Module 3b tests remain independently conducted by DVSA examiners. Candidates therefore benefit from testing at a familiar location while the independence and standards of the DVSA driving test remain fully maintained.
Supporting Other Training Providers
The benefits of the centre extend beyond RSM’s own candidates.
We also welcome and support other training providers who use our facilities for Module 3a and Module 4 tests. This helps improve access to local testing while allowing more candidates to benefit from the facilities available at our Wickford site.
We are proud to work alongside other providers and support the wider driver training industry wherever possible.
Looking Ahead
Our aim is to continue working closely with the DVSA to increase the number of tests conducted from the site.
Demand for commercial driver training and testing remains strong. Increasing test availability would allow us to support more candidates, employers and training providers while making better use of the facilities we have created.
In the long term, we want the centre to continue growing while maintaining the quality, safety and personal service RSM is known for.
